King Charles III visits Northern Ireland

On Tuesday, the King met the new Northern Ireland Secretary, Chris Heaton-Harris, as well as local party leaders.

Alongside the Queen Consort, he greeted lots of members of the public who came to meet him in Belfast.

At the royal palace of Hillsborough Castle, the King spoke about Queen Elizabeth II’s relationship with Northern Ireland.

“In the years since she began her long life of public service, my mother saw Northern Ireland pass through momentous and historic changes,” he said in response to a message of condolence from the Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Alex Maskey.

“Through all those years she never ceased to pray for the best of times for this place and its people, whose stories she knew, whose sorrows our family had felt, and for whom she had a great affection and regard.”
